NCJW Austin plays an important advocacy role in the lives of children, women, and families and also works to safeguard civil liberties and individual freedoms. We advocate locally and statewide through email action alerts, letter writing, phone calls, and participating in rallies and events with coalition partners who share our interests. Our members join with others across the country through a grassroots network coordinated by a professionally staffed office in Washington D.C.
Our issues and positions are based on the NCJW Resolutions. We work within the following priorities:
- Advance the well-being and status of women
- Advance the well-being of children and families
- Enhance the quality of Jewish Life
- Ensure and advance Individual and Civil Rights
- Support a secure Israel and the well-being of all its people
Some of our issues include:
- Quality, affordable, and accessible childcare
- Children’s health: access to health care coverage, immunizations, early intervention and prevention programs, and mental health services
- Women’s health, reproductive choice, and family planning
- Separation of religion and state, support for public education, opposition to vouchers
- Domestic violence prevention and education
- Civil rights, LGBT rights, immigration reform, workplace rights
- Economic justice, predatory lending
- Support a secure Israel and work for the well being of all its people
DAY ON THE HILL
Our signature program occurs during the biennial Texas Legislative Session. “Day on the Hill” involves joining with other NCJW women from across Texas for a day of learning about important issues from experts and advocates followed by a day for visits to our legislators on “the Hill” in Austin to make our voices heard. The guest presenters are always inspiring and our visits to the Capitol are empowering.
